In Memory of...

This week the music world lost one of it's best singers and at such a young age. Amy Winehouse was found in her North London flat, she was 27 years of age. Amy was on an unfortunate road for quite some time with her drug and alcohol abuse, and this overshadowed her singing ability, which to us at the Phat Music Crew she had an awesome voice! As a tribute to her, we are featuring her as our resident triple play for the week in which we will feature three off her Back to Black album.

How he died is still unknown but the rapper was known to have suffered ill health in the last couple of years of his life, which included a stroke in 2008 which left his left side paralysed. We pay tribute to him by playing three of his best tracks!

Merry Christmas

2010 has been an amazing year for Phat Music. We have had some great interviews from the likes of Vanessa Amorosi, Gretchen Lewis (a very fun interview, twice), Mutu and much much more!

We have played some awesome tracks and have featured some big albums of 2010. A couple of stand outs would have to be Bliss N Eso's Running on air and Eminem's album recovery which to us are the best albums of the year.

This year we brought in some features into the lineup which included the likes of the triple play. Three big tracks from artists which included the likes of Taio Cruz (our very first one) to TI and Flo Rida our last ones of 2010 before it resumes again in 2011.

Phat Music is taking a little break before we start back in the new year with our Sounds of Summer Specials which will occupy the crease for the first part of 2011. This week The Pulse is Broadcasting live Carol's by Candlelight at Johnson's Park Geelong so therefore our timeslot will be occupied in a more festive spirit. The next week is New Year's Eve and we are taking a rare week off then.

The Phat Music Crew would like to wish all of our listeners and fans a very Merry Christmas and the very best for the New Year. We also look forward to hearing from you in 2011.

Welcome to the end of 2009....

And what a year 2009 has been. We had everything from celebrity domestic abuse to the King of Pops death. 2009 was a year in which we remember some things fondly and other things we would like to forget. One major positive out of the year was the massive quality of music that was released, especially in the Urban genre...

Speaking of music, this week on the show is our first part of our top 50 for 2009 in which we call our Phat 50. We have compiled the votes from the Phat 22's throughout the year into votes that go like so. So for Number 1 it's 22 points right through to number 22 which is 1 point, got it, good. This week as a result will be the first half of the show numbers 50 through to 26, the second half will be on New Years Day!

No this isn't anything kinky (although it would depend on who you would ask) but we are playing the new release of the ultra cool Rihanna which is called Rated R!

This is Rihanna's fourth studio album since bursting onto the scene at the tender age of 16 and has emerged as a woman very quickly both as a person and in the music industry. Rated R writes about more personal experiences, and I would say the more public experiences of the press and public and Chris Brown. It's an album which I am really keen in which to listen to in more depth and one that I would say the general public would. Already in has been released internationally to good reviews and if you would like to listen to it in full before you buy the album then Phat Music is the show to listen to it first!

Part 2

As mentioned last week, we are paying tribute to the Greatest Rapper ever to Live and that is Tupac Shakur who died 13 years ago yesterday. Last week was part one of this tribute and since we have heaps of his music we decided that we are doing a second week of the special.

As we know Tupac was a workaholic. He left us with material that was recorded during his time on earth as well as material that was left to us that was released after his death. So much tallent that really was only scratching the surface, he had so much to offer. It raises the question over what he would be doing if he was alive today. Producing? Recording? World tour?

There were people who were obviously jealous of his tallent and what he meant to the rap industry. His music was old school with a new school feel and people were threatened by what he would do and what he could become. It's amazing that the ones that are tragically taken away in this industry have been ones that people would be threatened by! Including Tupac, there was Notorious BIG, Jam Master Jay, Proof even Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes if you want to read into that more. This is really the first time that we have expressed this view but at the end of the day the Tall Poppy Syndrome rears its ugly head.

Still this is not to take anything away from the Great man that was Tupac Amaru Shakur. Tune in for the second part of the tribute because there is heaps more music that makes the man, the life, the legacy.

This week on the show we are remembering the best rap artist to ever live and that is Tupac Amaru Shakur! 13 years on the 13th September has passed since Pac was tragically taken away from us in a cold blooded murder. Why was he murdered? Jealousy? Greed? We have many theories but on things for sure is that he will never fullfil the potential that he had to be even better than ever, can that be true? All I know is that he should and will always be remembered.

This week's show is all about the music. The music that he made that made him and the music that his mother Afeni was dedicated to making sure that the world heard it. We will have some of his much known tracks plus also some from the Makavelli The Don Collection that I believe was the true Tupac.

At Phat Music Tupac is one of our favourite Urban artists as I'm sure millions around the world respected what he did for the genre. This week is a big thank you to him for producing the best rap music around. Every time I hear his music it makes me get lost in his world and appreciate what he went through in life and death to make it known to the world that life is worth living to the max!
